A Viking-era Tafl game played on an 11x11 board. The King and 12 defenders start on the central throne; 24 attackers line the four edges of the board (this simplified ruleset places no special restrictions on the throne or corner squares). Every piece slides any number of squares horizontally or vertically, like a chess rook, until blocked by another piece or the edge. An enemy piece is captured by sandwiching it between two of your own pieces along a row or column — moving into such a sandwich yourself is safe; capture only happens the instant the trapping move is made. The King is captured exactly the same way as any other piece. The King's side wins the moment the King reaches any square on the board's outer edge. The attackers win by capturing the King, or by encircling the King and all remaining defenders so tightly that none of them can reach the edge. (The blue-highlighted squares are the King's escape zone.)
